Nashville Sounds Out-Hits Cubs But Suffers Third Consecutive Loss

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – Iowa left-hander Brooks Raley twirled six scoreless innings to lead the Iowa Cubs to a 4-1 victory over the Nashville Sounds on Tuesday evening at Principal Park in the opener of a four-game series. The defeat was the third in a row and the sixth loss in the last seven games for Nashville (4-8).

The Sounds out-hit the Cubs, 10-3, in the game and placed a runner into scoring position in seven of the nine innings but finished just 1-for-11 in RBI opportunities. Ozzie Chavez, Cole Garner, and Anderson De La Rosa all turned in two-hit efforts for the Sounds.

Nashville Sounds get mauled by Iowa Cubs 14-2

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – PCL home run leader Anthony Rizzo belted a pair of longballs and drove in four runs to power the Iowa Cubs to a 14-3 triumph over the Nashville Sounds on Sunday afternoon at Principal Park in the finale of a six-game series.

Eight of Iowa’s 15 hits on the day went for extra bases, including four home runs. The I-Cubs won four of the six contests in the series against the Sounds (24-40).

Cubs catcher Juan Apodaca joined Rizzo with four RBIs on the day and also homered.

Jay Gibbons Homer Propels Nashville Sounds to 3-2 Victory In Nightcap

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – The Nashville Sounds and Iowa Cubs split a doubleheader for the second consecutive day on Saturday evening at Principal Park.

A sixth-inning Jay Gibbons homer propelled Nashville to a 3-2 victory in the nightcap after Iowa left-hander Brooks Raley fired a six-hit shutout in a 1-0 Cubs victory in the opener.

With the game two win, Nashville (24-39) gained a split of a twinbill against the division-rival Cubs for the second straight evening.

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – Left-fielder Ty Wright belted a go-ahead, two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Iowa Cubs a 5-4 victory over the Nashville Sounds in the opener of a six-game series on Thursday night at Principal Park.

With the Sounds leading 4-3 entering the bottom of the eighth, Josh Vitters hit a one-out single off Mike McClendon (2-3) before Wright went deep on the following play.

Sounds Close Homestand With 5-1 Win Over I-Cubs

 

Nashville Turns Triple Play In Exciting Finale Victory

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds ended their homestand on a high note on Friday evening, posting a 5-1 victory over the Iowa Cubs in front of 8,181 fans at Greer Stadium.

With the win, Nashville (23-31) gained a split of the four-game series against their division rivals and finished its homestand with a 5-3 mark.

Three Sounds hurlers (Mark DiFelice, Chase Wright, Sean Green) combined to hold Iowa to three hits on the evening, while the 6-7-8 hitters carried the load for Nashville offense. Mike Rivera, Caleb Gindl, and Taylor Green combined for a 6-for-11 evening with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Nashville Beats Iowa, 8-6, On Monday

 

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – The Nashville Sounds topped the Iowa Cubs, 8-6, on Monday evening at Principal Park in Des Moines in the third game of a four-game set.

With the win, Nashville (67-62) moved to six games behind division-leading Iowa.  Luis Cruz was a single away from the cycle, as the Sounds shortstop went 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the victory.

The Sounds took an early 3-0 lead in the opening frame and didn’t look back. Brendan Katin doubled home Adam Stern for Nashville’s first run, followed by a Joe Koshansky RBI single. Cruz then doubled home Koshansky for the third run of the game.

Nashville plated five runs on three second inning home runs to take an 8-0 lead over Iowa. Sounds starting pitcher Sam Narron helped his own cause to lead off the second inning, as the pitcher knocked a 3-1 pitch over the wall in right center for his first homer of the year and Nashville’s second home run by a pitcher this season.
