101st Airborne Division cancels Week of the Eagles, Fort Campbell looks for Alternatives

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) 2020 Week of the Eagles at Fort Campbell, which celebrates the proud history and tradition of the Screaming Eagles division by bringing together Troopers past and present for celebration and spirited competition, has been cancelled.

The week long event, which was scheduled for May 15th through May 20th, will not be held this year as originally planned due to safety considerations related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“This was a very difficult decision,” said Maj. Gen. Brian Winski, commanding general, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell.

Terra Bella opens Fort Campbell’s Week of the Eagles Concert, Saturday

 

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – On Saturday, May 18th at 6:00pm, Terra Bella opens the Week of the Eagles concert Fort Campbell’s Division Parade Field, followed by Eric Paslay and headliner Jake Owen. Family-friendly preconcert activities begin at 5:00pm.

Week of the Eagles is a semi-annual event honoring 101st Airborne Division’s legacy of service that continues to this day. It is a time to celebrate the division’s rich history with Soldiers, veterans, Families and the community while strengthening bonds of camaraderie.

“Week of the Eagles is our opportunity to open our arms to the local community and celebrate Fort Campbell and the 101st,” said Col. Joseph P. Kuchan, Fort Campbell garrison commander. “We’ll celebrate the lineage and legacy of heroism of the 101st while we pay tribute to our veterans and the sacrifice of our Soldiers and their Families. It’s a great week.”

Fort Campbell’s Retiree Appreciation Day to be held May 18th during Week of the Eagles

 

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Fort Campbell’s Retiree Appreciation Day is open to retirees from all branches of service and their spouses. It will be held this year on Saturday, May 18th, 2019 at the Soldier Support Center, 2702 Michigan Avenue.

Retiree Appreciation Day begins at 10:00am, with an 11:00am opening ceremony during which Theodore Faulkner, Personnel Processing Branch chief, Retirement Services officer and event organizer, will provide an update of retiree benefits.

The guest speaker will be U.S. Rep. Mark E. Green, who represents Tennessee’s seventh congressional district that includes Clarksville Tennessee.

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Soldiers and civilians of the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell are excited to host Family members, community members, veterans and distinguished guests on Fort Campbell in celebration of our annual “Week of the Eagles” events, May 17th-23rd, 2019. This year’s WOE celebration will also include “Military Survivor Appreciation Week” and Retiree Appreciation Day.

Come see why Fort Campbell is the installation of choice for Army Soldiers, Families, civilians and veterans. Events are free and open to the public. Non-military ID card holders will need to follow normal gate entry procedures.

A legacy of courage, strength honored at Fort Campbell during the 101st Airborne Division Review

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – The sun may have been bright this morning, but it could not shine brighter than the pride of the 101st Airborne Division as 12,800 Soldiers stood together on the Division Parade Field to close out this year’s Week of the Eagles celebration.

The theme of the 2014 observance was “Remembering the 101st in Vietnam: Building on the legacy of courage and strength,” and gathered at the parade field were representatives of the division’s history looking upon the Soldiers that are the division’s present and future – building on that legacy created by the Veterans in attendance.

Competition breeds excellence at the 2014 Week of the Eagles Marksmanship Competition on Fort Campbell

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Teams from 101st Airborne Division units and Fort Campbell competed in a series of marksmanship events on Tuesday during the 101st Airborne Division’s Week of the Eagles.

“Competition breeds Excellence,” said 1st Lt. Jonathan Pickens, the planner for the Week of the Eagles Marksmanship Competition. “It also helps build that competitive edge that we need to take to the enemy when we’re deployed overseas.”

Valerie Hunter-Kelly named 2014 Champion of Fort Campbell at Awards Ceremony, Monday

 

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – On Monday, local realtor Valerie Hunter-Kelly was inducted as a Champion of Fort Campbell during the 2014 Week of the Eagles.

The Champions of Fort Campbell award allows Fort Campbell to recognize and give local citizens who have spent their lives supporting Fort Campbell a small token of appreciation.

Maj. Gen. James C. McConville presented the award and unveiled a portrait sized copy of the photo of Valerie Hunter Kelly that would be placed on the wall of honor  with the previously selected champions of Fort Campbell.

Fort Campbell MWR’s Spectacular Saturday helps BACH reach out to Community

 

2014 Fort Campbell Week of the EaglesFort Campbell, KY – On Saturday Fort Campbell MWR organized Spectacular Saturday, a massive event for the soldiers and their family’s as part of the 2014 Week of the Eagles. The 2014 Week of the Eagle Community Fair featured static displays with some of the 101st Airborne Division’s tactical equipment including helicopters like the Chinook, Apache, Blackhawk, Kiowa and land vehicles including an HMMWV and an MRAP! For the Kids or young at heart there were zip-lines, and over a dozen inflatables. The Week of the Eagles Car show, and Blanchfield Army Community Hospital’s Community Health Fair were also part of this mega event. It was a lot of fun for everyone who attended.

“Blanchfield Army community Hospital is starting their 26 Week Performance Triad Health Challenge,” said Laura Boyd, Public Affairs Officer for Blachfield Army Community Hospital. “The performance Triad is the Army Surgeon General’s way to promote sleep, activity, and nutrition to help ensure more healthy soldiers.”

This History of Fort Campbell’s Week of the Eagles

 

2014 Fort Campbell Week of the EaglesFort Campbell, KY – Major General J.H. Cushman hosted Fort Campbell’s first “Week of the Eagles” May 21st-25th, 1973; one year after the 101st was officially welcomed back from Vietnam.

The week was touted as a celebration of the Division’s combat readiness and was held in the same time period as Armed Forces and Memorial Days. The week also featured both a Kentucky Day of the Eagles and a Tennessee Day of the Eagles. Kentucky Governor Wendell Ford and Tennessee Governor Winfield Dunn both visited Fort Campbell to mark the occasions.
