Clarksville’s Roxy Regional Theatre brings Shakespeare’s “Measure For Measure” to the stage, March 13th – 21st

Roxy Regional TheatreClarksville, TN – Virtue and vice sit atop the scales this spring in the Roxy Regional Theatre’s 30th annual Shakespeare production. William Shakespeare’s “Measure For Measure” opens Friday, March 13th, at 8:00pm, for five public performances only.

Duke Vincentio (David Gautschy) appoints Lord Angelo (John Hardin) as deputy of Vienna. Under Angelo’s watchful eye, old laws against impropriety and lewd behavior are newly enforced. But can Angelo adhere to his own high standards?

One of Shakespeare’s darkest comedies, “Measure For Measure” explores the layers of corruption and hypocrisy which often lurk beneath public righteousness.

Pairing Mardi Gras masks with colorful costuming to give the production a New Orleans flavor, director Chris Davis highlights the comedy in Shakespeare’s tonally dark “problem play,” while exploring serious themes related to power, morality, religion, governance and law. Davis, a leader in Memphis’ independent art and theatre scene in the ’90s and a founding member of the River City Shakespeare Festival, has directed numerous award-winning stage plays and is currently theatre critic and arts entertainment reporter for The Memphis Flyer.

Although “Measure For Measure” marks the Roxy Regional Theatre’s 30th foray into the works attributed to the Bard of Stratford-upon-Avon, this is the first time this particular piece has been presented on the Roxy’s stage.

“Measure For Measure” also features Liz Tancredi as Isabella, John Lampe as Claudio, Amanda LaPergola as Mariana, Leslie Greene as Mistress Overdone, Cody Boccia as Lucio, Georgia Smith as Juliet, Matthew Whitfield as Escalus, Corinne Bupp as the Provost, and Mark Sherlock as Elbow.

This production is made possible in part through the generous support of the City of Clarksville. Additional funding support has been provided by Dr. Ernest & Joan DeWald.

“Measure For Measure” March 13th through March 21st, playing Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm, with a 2:00pm matinee on Saturday, March 21st. Tickets are $15.00 and may be purchased online at www.roxyregionaltheatre.org , by phone at 931.645.7699, or at the theatre during regular box office hours (9:00am to 2:00pm, Monday through Friday, and one hour prior to curtain).
