APSU Softball’s Morgan Rackel named OVC Player of the Week

APSU SoftballBrentwood, TN – For a record fifth time in her career, Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball pitcher Morgan Rackel has been selected for a weekly Ohio Valley Conference honor for her efforts on the softball field, but this time for her accomplishments at the plate in selected as the OVC Player of the Week, announced by the conference office, Monday afternoon.

Rackel, a native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, has been a four-time OVC Pitcher of the Week selection overall in her career and now breaks a tie with former Governor softball player Lauren de Castro (2011-14) for most career OVC Player/Pitcher of the Week selections by an APSU softball player with five.

She also joins de Castro and Natasha Anderson (2004-07) as the only three players in Austin Peay history to receive both OVC Player and Pitcher of the Week acknowledgments at least once in their respective careers.

Overall, Rackel recorded hits in all four games this past weekend in posted a .462 batting average, with a slugging percentage of 1.231 and an on-base percentage of .500.

Among her six hits were a double and three home runs, with her second home run of the weekend tying Game 2 versus Belmont 3-3, in the fifth inning – after being down 3-0 – while her sixth-inning home run versus the Bruins put the Govs ahead for good, 5-3.

With her selection, Rackel joins current teammates Danielle Liermann, Carly Mattson and Kacy Acree as former OVC Player of the Week recipients.

This marks the 20th time overall a Governor softball player has earned the distinction of being named OVC Player of the Week since the OVC started the honor in the 1994 season.
