3rd Annual Porkin’ in the Park continues today

 

Porkin in the ParkThe Clarksville Kiwanis Club’s third annual Kansas City Barbecue Society’s Porkin in the Park State Championship Contest continues Today. Teams from all over the eastern United States are competing for $6,500 in prize money in five categories, chicken, pulled pork bbq, brisket, ribs, and dessert. The Judging begins at Noon with Chicken, followed by PORK RIBS at 12:30pm, PORK at 1:00pm, and BEEF BRISKET at 1:30pm.

The event is free and open to the public. Don’t worry about eating before you come down as the Smokin’ Rednecks will have plenty of championship barbecue for sale. So come hungry! Beer from Budweiser will be on tap. Live music starts at 6:00pm with Southern Comfort followed by Clarksville favorites the Beagles at 8:00pm.

Porkin in the Park starts tomorrow

 

Porkin in the ParkThe 3rd annual Porkin in the Park is Friday and Saturday, July 9th and 10th at Strawberry alley. Downtown Clarksville will be filled with the smell of slow hickory smoked barbeque and the sounds of live music. Clarksville Kiwanis Club is hosting its third annual Kansas City Barbeque Society’s Porkin in the Park State Championship Contest presented by Bud Light. Teams from all over the eastern United States will be competing for $6,500 in prize money in five categories, chicken, pulled pork bbq, brisket, ribs, and dessert. Don’t worry; there will be plenty of championship barbeque for sale so come hungry.

The event is free and open to the public. In addition to the food, there’s live music both nights beginning at 6:00pm. Mike Robinson will kick things off Friday followed by Les Kerr and the Bayou Band. Saturday night Southern Comfort will open for The Beagles. There’s a kid’s zone both days for the little ones with inflatables.

Les Kerr and The Bayou Band to perform at Downtown Clarksville Barbecue Festival

 

Les Kerr & The Bayou Band are scheduled to perform at Porkin’ in the Park sponsored by Downtown Kiwanis Club Friday, July 9th, 2010, at 8:00pm.  There is no admission fee for the concert. The weekend-long festival is a Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) sanctioned event that will feature music, a kid’s zone and food.

Originally from the Gulf Coast, Kerr refers to his eclectic musical style as “Hillbilly Blues Caribbean Rock & Roll” because of the variety found in his music.  The upbeat style is a mix of blues, bluegrass, New Orleans and Gulf Coast influences.  He has recorded six CDs, including his current album, New Orleans Set.

Porkin’ in the Park, July 9th and 10th

 

The Kiwanis Club of Clarksville presents the 3nd annual Porkin’ in the Park. The event will be held down on Strawberry Alley July 9th and 10th. There will be food, drinks, live music and so much more. And let’s not forget the Barbeque. Admission is FREE to the public for both days.

Porkin’ in the Park is a Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned state championship barbeque cook-off hosted by Kiwanis Club of Clarksville. BBQ teams from around the region will be there competing for a Grand Champion prize of $1000. Kiwanis Club holds John D. Maddox Sr. Memorial Pancake Breakfast

 

The Kiwanis Club of Clarksville held their Annual John D. Maddox Sr. Memorial Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, a fund-raising event they have been holding for over forty years. The all you can eat Breakfast  featured light and fluffy pancakes, sausage patties, crisp bacon, and your choice of drinks.

The Kiwanis club utilizes the revenue generated from their events to fund their philanthropic works in the community, including a Christmas party for children in the Head Start program, they buy presents and winter hats and coats for them.  Buying books for the reading is fundamental program.  They also give donations other youth oriented organizations. “Porkin’ in the Park”: Music, grillin’ and great food

 

The Kiwanis Club of Clarksville is sponsoring the second Porkin’ in the Park this Friday and Saturday, April 3-4. Admission is free for all events.
