Austin Peay Lady Govs Softball heads west for final in-season Tournament

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will head to Oklahoma this weekend to play in its final in-season tournament this year at the Hyatt Downtown Tulsa Classic.

The Lady Govs (4-4) open play, 12:30pm, Friday, against Loyola Chicago, while wrapping up Day 1 with a 5:00pm, game against host Tulsa.

On Saturday, Austin Peay plays North Texas 10:30am, and will either play at 3:00pm or 5:00pm – depending on its seed after round-robin play.

The tourney’s final day on Sunday will consist of the 10:00am, consolation game followed by the noon, championship game.

Austin Peay is led offensively by sophomore Lauren de Castro, who comes into the tournament with a .391 batting average, a home run and a team-best nine RBI, while freshman Sarah Rasmussen follows at .316, with three doubles and four RBI.

In the circle, de Castro – who is the current Ohio Valley Conference co-Pitcher of the Week — tops the Lady Govs pitching staff with a 2-0 record, a 0.88 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 16 innings of work.

Junior Morgan Brewer has the other two Austin Peay wins and is 2-2 overall with 15 strikeouts in 20.2 innings this season.
