Austin Peay State UniversityVanja TomicClarksville, TN – Senior Vanja Tomic, of the Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team was named the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference co-Female Athlete of the Week, the league office announced, Wednesday.

Tomic picked up two wins this week at No. 1 singles, including an OVC win against SIU Edwardsville and a road win at Middle Tennessee. She also picked up a win at No. 1 doubles alongside Alison Carre against the Cougars.

Most impressively for the Bosnia native is her 12-match win streak at the top position. After opening the season with back-to-back losses to Vanderbilt and Memphis, Tomic is unbeaten. The streak includes only one three-set win – coming against South Alabama’s Alina Volman – with 11 matches won in straight sets.

As a sophomore, Tomic won 17-straight matches and was named the OVC’s Player of the Year.

“This is very deserving,” head coach Malik Tabet said. “Vanja’s work ethic has turned around 100 percent this year from last. She’s been one of the hardest working players I’ve seen. Her streak in itself is impressive and I’m confident she’ll break the record she set her sophomore year.”

Tomic shared the OVC Female Athlete of the Week award with Morehead State freshman Alexis Garrett.
