APSU Sports: Austin Peay Men’s Golf
Hebron, KY – Officially, Austin Peay State University men’s golf team is in third place after the first day of the Bearcat Invitational. Unofficially, the Govs will enter the final day in second place.

Officially, the Governors are in third after shoot a 4-over 292 in the first round, behind Belmont (287) and Northern Kentucky (288). Youngstown State and Eastern Kentucky were in fourth at 294. APSU was 2-under as a team after 12 holes in the second round, including a trio of birdies on the par-5 No. 12.
Junior Anthony Bradley shot an opening-round 70 to sit in third place individually. Fellow junior Marco Iten was tied for 18th after Round 1 with a 1-over 73. Freshman Austin Kramer, in his second tournament, shot a 74 while senior Dustin Korte was at 75 and redshirt freshman Korey Smith fired a 76. Freshman Chris Baker fired a 78 as an individual.
APSU head coach is encouraged heading into the final 24 holes.
“We played okay in the first round but we were playing good in the second round,” Kirk Kayden said. “We made some shots in the second round. We are really getting close to where we want to be, of having more than one guy playing really well.
“Last year we had five guys playing well all day long and you didn’t really know who was going to be counters and who wasn’t. We are getting closer to that.”
The Governors are defending champs in the event and Kayden believes his Govs can make a run at the title.
“We were nine shots down with 18 holes left last year,” he said. “We are seven shots down with 24 holes remaining. We have a chance.”
