Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will play host to arguably the hottest team in the Ohio Valley Conference this weekend at Cheryl Holt Field as Southern Illinois Edwardsville comes to Clarksville for a three-game conference series. The two teams open things up with a noon, Saturday doubleheader and conclude with a noon, Sunday single game.

SIU Edwardsville (28-8, 11-2 OVC) has been dominant over its current win streak, outscoring its opponents 81-16, including four shutouts versus OVC competition.
Through 30 games this season, the Lady Govs are led offensively by junior Lauren de Castro’s .374 batting average, which includes six doubles, four triples, three home runs and 15 RBI.
Junior Kayla Davidson and sophomore Laurel Burroughs round out Austin Peay’s .300 hitters, with Davidson coming in at .341 (nine doubles, four home runs, 21 RBI) and Burroughs at .313 (seven doubles, three triples, three home runs and 15 RBI).
SIUE, which comes in hitting .303 as a team, boasts six players hitting better than .300, led by Alex McDavid’s .409 average, with eight doubles, six home runs and 31 RBI.
In the circle, de Castro tops the Lady Govs pitching staff with a 6-8 win-loss record, along with a 3.09 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 97.1 inning of work.
Senior Morgan Brewer is 5-8 overall, with a 5.25 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 78.2 innings for the Lady Govs.
Freshman Haley Chambers leads SIUE with a 15-2 record, a 1.71 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 119 innings pitched so far this season.
