Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will close out its home schedule this Sunday and Monday, as it hosts Southeast Missouri for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at Cheryl Holt Field.
The series was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday and Sunday, but with rain in the forecast for most of Saturday, the series will now be pushed back a day; with a doubleheader starting at noon on Sunday and concluding Monday with a noon single game.
It will be a huge series for both teams, as heading into the final two weekends of the regular season, Austin Peay (15-14, 6-15 OVC) and Southeast Missouri (15-27, 6-13 OVC) are on the outside looking in as far as a berth into the OVC post-season tournament field.
The Lady Govs are currently in 10th place in the conference standings — a game back of ninth-place SEMO — who is a game back of eighth-place Morehead State. The top eight teams make the tournament, which will be held at the home site of the regular-season champion.
It will also be Senior Day weekend for the Lady Govs, as Morgan Brewer, Shelby Norton and Jessica Ryan will be playing their final home games in an APSU uniform.
Austin Peay is led offensively by Lauren de Castro, who enters the series hitting .393 for the season – with 10 doubles, four triples and eight home runs. She also leads the team in runs scored (30) and RBI (29).
Kayla Davidson is the only other Lady Gov hitting above .300, coming in with a .343 average to go with 11 doubles and five home runs.
Southeast Missouri is led by Alexis Anderson, who is hitting a blistering .410 clip, with seven doubles, a triple and six home runs.
Brewer is right behind her with a 6-10 mark, with 47 strikeouts in 98 innings and a 4.71 ERA.
Taylor Cowan leads Redhawk pitchers with a 7-18 record and 80 strikeouts in 158 innings and a 3.77 ERA.
