Brunswick, GA – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team picked up its second win of the season as the Lady Govs swept Coastal Georgia 9-0, Tuesday, at the Marta B. Torrey Tennis Complex.In doubles play, which counted as a point per match as opposed to the usual best two-of-three earning the point format, Austin Peay (2-8), was led by the pairing of sophomore Hannah Tatlock and senior Jovana Karac who cruised to an 8-1 victory at the No. 2 position.
The duo of sophomore Isabela Jovanovic and freshman Brittney Covington picked up an 8-5 victory at the No. 3 slot and the Lady Govs wrapped up the doubles points as the team of seniors Ornella di Salvo and Vanessa Tavares earned a hard fought 9-7 victory at No. 1.
In singles action, Karac was the only Lady Gov to win in straight sets as she defeated Alden Minick 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 6 position while Tatlock and Covington earned comeback wins Tuesday. Tatlock knocked off Freja Rasmussen 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2 while Covington downed Samantha Lasslett 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 at the No 4 position.
In other singles matches, Di Salvo earned a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 victory against Daniella Caruso at the No. 1 slot while Tavares defeated Emy Alplund 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 at the No. 3 position. The Lady Govs completed their undefeated afternoon when Jovanovic outlasted Krinstina Polakovic 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 5
The Lady Govs will open up Ohio Valley conference play with a 2:00pm, Friday contest against UT Martin at the Austin Peay Indoor Tennis Center.
