Nashville Sounds give solid performance in win at Fresno Grizzlies, 7-2

Sean Doolittle, Ben Zobrist Star in First Triple-A Rehab Appearances

Nashville SoundsFresno, CA – Behind a one-hit performance by Zach Neal, the Nashville Sounds defeated the Fresno Grizzlies, 7-2 on Friday night at Chukchansi Park.

The right-hander was called up from Midland on Thursday to make the start. He gave up two runs, one of which was earned.

The Sounds got on the board first thanks to some patient two-out baseball. Rehabbing utility man Ben Zobrist drew out a two-out walk, a result that Matt Carson then duplicated.

Jason Pridie deposited a single that fell in front of right fielder Domingo Santana and Zobrist scored. With the run, the Sounds have now outscored opponents 29-9 in first innings of games.

Zobrist and Pridie continued to do damage all night long. Pridie knocked in three runners on three different RBI singles, while Zobrist went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.

The Sounds corner outfielders were not the only players having a strong night, designated hitter Ryan Roberts also got in on the hit brigade.  The “Tatman” just missed hitting for the cycle; falling a home run shy of becoming just the fourth player in the team’s history of accomplishing the feat. He has now recorded multi-hit performances in 10 of his 22 games.

Athletics closer Sean Doolittle pitched a scoreless 8th inning on rehab for the Sounds. He previously made two appearances at Stockton and one with Midland as he continues his comeback from a shoulder injury.

The Sounds and Grizzlies play the third game of their four-game set tomorrow at Chukchansi Park. It will be a battle of southpaws as Nashville starter Brad Mills opposes Fresno’s Tommy Shirley. First pitch is scheduled for 9:05pm.
