Austin Peay Sports Information
Brentwood, TN – After leading Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team in kills for four straight matches, sophomore middle blocker/right side hitter Ashley Slay was named the adidas®/Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Monday.
The week began with a bang as Slay hit a career-best 18 kills and added a career-high tying eight blocks in a five-set loss to Evansville, Tuesday, in Austin Peay’s home opener.
Slay didn’t back off that performance at the weekend’s Blazer Invitational. She posted back-to-back errorless attack performances to lead Austin Peay to its first wins this season. Slay recorded a team-best six kills and a .500 attack percentage in the opener against Savannah State. She followed that with a team-best 13 kills and an impressive .650 attack percentage in a win against Florida International.
Austin Peay may not have been able to keep its momentum going in the tournament finale, losing to host UAB, but Slay kept going with a team-best 11 kills and a .440 attack percentage in the three-set loss. She finished the Blazer Invitational with 30 kills (3.75 per set) and a .519 attack percentage.
Slay has been Austin Peay’s leading attacker in five matches this season. She now leads the Lady Govs with 68 kills (2.96 per set) and a .294 attack percentage in the season’s first seven matches.
The Lady Govs return to action after the holiday with a 7:00pm, Tuesday contest at nationally-ranked Western Kentucky.
