APSU Governors Golf comes in fifth at Red Wolves Intercollegiate

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUJoneboro, AR – On a day when wind conditions hindered scoring, Austin Peay State University men’s golf slipped one spot, Tuesday, to finish fifth at the 20th Annual Red Wolves Intercollegiate, played at RidgePointe Country Club.

A day after under-par scores were the norm, the Governors shot 307 (881 total) during a round that saw the low score a 7-over 291.

UT Martin rallied with a 291 to tie host Arkansas State at 852 and then won the 15-team tournament in a one-hole playoff. The wind whipped 13-15 mph much of the round, with gusts nearing 20 mph.

Only seniors Chris Baker and Tyler Phillips avoided trouble, Tuesday. They combined for five of the Governors eight birdies on a brisk morning that saw the Governors affected by five double bogeys and a pair of triples. Baker finished the round at 2-over 73 for a 217, tying him for 10th overall—he climbed 10 spots on the final day. Phillips, who struggled during Round 1 Monday, finished his last two rounds with 70-74, leaving him at 225, tied for 34th.

Austin Kramer ended the tournament with a 79 for a 225 total, also tying him for 34th. Junior Erik Hedberg and sophomore Justin Arens each had 81s, Tuesday, for the final counting score. Freshman Sean Butscher, playing as an individual, ended with a 76.
