Tyler Junior College Pitcher Kelly Mardones signed by APSU Softball

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – With the need to replace four senior pitchers for the upcoming 2018 season, Austin Peay State University opened the NCAA Signing period by inking Tyler Junior College hurler Kelly Mardones to a National Letter of Intent.

The 5-11, right-hander Sanger, TX native currently boasts a 24-3 win-loss record this season for the Apaches, who lead the NJCAA Region XIV East Zone Division standings with an overall record of 40-13 and 19-3 in division play.

Her win total ties third most wins by any pitcher in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division I level this season.

Along with the 24-3 record, Mardones has posted a 2.13 ERA in 148 innings pitched this season, coming in 32 overall appearances for Tyler JC – including 28 starts and 11 complete games, while recording four shutouts and picking up a save. She has also recorded 111 strikeouts, an average of 5.25 per seven innings pitched.

Mardones is also a threat at the plate, batting an even .400 in limited at bats this season, going 10-for-25 with three doubles.

Prior to Tyler Junior College, Mardones signed out of high school with NCAA Division I member Creighton University, but only appeared in two games for the Bluejays in 2016, posting a 0-1 record in 4.2 innings pitched.

As a prep standout at Sanger High School, she was a three-time All-District Pitcher of the Year for the Lady Indians, as well as the Denton Record Chronicle All-Area Pitcher of the Year following her junior and senior seasons. Was named to the Texas Sports Writers Association All-State Honorable Mention Team as a junior.
