The Govs got on the board late on the first day of competition thanks to junior Emmaculate Kiplagat, who finished seventh in the 10,000m run.

The Kenyan’s 38:00.57 run placed her seventh and secured two points for the Govs on the first day of competition.

Elsewhere on Day One, freshman Denia Hill-Tate is in the running for points in the women’s heptathlon after picking up 2,744 points through four of seven events. She’s just 20 points behind sixth-place Louisa Rieger of Eastern Illinois, but a mere 34 points ahead of Jacksonville State’s Baylee Porch, so Hill-Tate will need solid performances Friday, when the heptathlon concludes with the long jump, javelin and 800m run.

The Nashville native did the bulk of her damage in the shot put on Thursday, finishing second in that event and securing 643 points thanks to an 11.73m (38-6.00) toss. She also performed admirably in the 100m hurdles, placing eighth (15.17) for 819 points.

Day Two action commences Friday from Tucker Stadium with the conclusion of the heptathlon, scheduled for a 9:15am start.
