APSU Women’s Cross Country places second at Austin Peay Cross Country Festival

APSU Women's Cross CountryClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s cross country team earned a runner-up finish in its annual home meet as the Austin Peay Cross Country Festival came to a close, Saturday. Three Governors finished in the top-10 and eight five other Govs cracked the top-25 in the meet.

Freshman Maisie Lay and senior Caroline Kiplagat led the way for the Govs—both finished in the top-five with the times of 18:58.17 and 18:59.03 (fourth and fifth), respectively.

Newcomer Molly Howard was the next Govs to cross to finish line as she placed 10th and broke the 20-minute barrier with a time of 19:57.82.

Alura Endres secured a top-15 finish, crossing the finish line in 20:29.15 (15th). The duo of Mikaela Smith and Larin Harr did some solid pack running as they crossed the line less than three seconds behind Endres with times of 20:29.40 and 20:30.56 (16th and 17th).

Jada Hale and Emily Woodward both brought home a top-25 finish, clocking in at 20:40.77 and 21:00.31 (21st and 24th). Keleah Shell finished the meet 27th as she timed at 21:28.20. Lexie Nicholas was not far behind Shell, crossing the finish less than seven seconds later at 21:36.73 (31st).

Coach Doug Molnar was satisfied about how the outcome and enjoyed the support from the Govs’ community.

“We talked about trying to break up Evansville’s top three and we did that,” stated Molnar. “We were a lot closer this time then we were last time against them, so we keep improving and I am really proud of the effort.”

The Governors are set for University of Louisville as they are participants in the Louisville Invitational, next Saturday.
