What Is Jin Shin Jyutsu and How Can It Help Me?
Jin Shin Jyutsu (pronounced “jin-shin-jit-soo”) may seem new and different, but I can assure you it’s neither something to avoid nor is it something to fear. It is an age-old healing technique that originated in Japan about 1900 when Jiro Murai, a philosopher, recovered from a life-threatening illness after he rediscovered its methods. The words themselves mean “the art of the Creator in the person of compassion.” This healing art involves having a therapist gently touch specific points on one’s body while you lie fully clothed on a massage table with, if you like, a small pillow under your head and a larger one under your knees. APSU’s Downtown Art Gallery opening was the highlight of November’s Art Walk
The new facility provides a much needed exhibition space for APSU faculty and alumni in what has rapidly become the focal point of the Arts community in our town. “It’s a way to help our alumni who are out there trying to build their careers,” said Gregg Schlanger, APSU professor of Art. “It gives them a line on their resume and allows us to brag about our program.”

Two Award Winning Poets to Read at APSU
Phillis Levin, of New York, and Kate Gleason, of New Hampshire, will visit Austin Peay State University that day for a 7 p.m. poetry reading at the Morgan University Center. Both women share a talent for the written word, but they recently forged a new connection. Levin, in her role as contest judge, selected Gleason’s poetry collection, “Measuring the Dark,” as the winner of the First Book Award at Zone 3 Press. Chandler & Price printing press addition benefits APSU
The University now has the Chandler and Price printing press, as well as three cabinets of pristine metal type, typesetting equipment and a selection of printed ephemeral works. The press was donated by Martha Goldsmith, whose late husband, Arthur Goldsmith, is the namesake of the Goldsmith Press and Rare Type Collection, an entity within the APSU Department of Art and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts. “Arthur enjoyed playing around with the type,” Martha Goldsmith said. “He liked to collect fine print books and study the type.”

APSU celebrates Obama’s first 100 days
The event will occur at noon, Thursday, April 30, the day after Obama’s 100th day in office.
