Tennessee ranks Sixth in the Nation for Women Murdered by Men in annual report: “When Men Murder Women: An Analysis of 2013 Homicide Data”

 

Safe Tennessee ProjectNashville, TN – Sometimes moving up in rankings is a good thing.  However, when the criteria is the number of women murdered by men in your state, being in the top 10 is not where you want to be.  Sadly, Tennessee has moved from 10th to 6th since last year’s report was released.

More than 1,600 women were murdered by men in 2013 and the most common weapon used was a gun, according to the new Violence Policy Center (VPC) study When Men Murder Women: An Analysis of 2013 Homicide Data.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Daymar Institute to host Domestic Violence Awareness event tomorrow

 

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office - MCSOMontgomery County, TN – Organizers hope an event tomorrow will help raise awareness of domestic violence and local victims.

Deputy Peggy Macias said the “Remember My Name” event was first brought to Montgomery County in October 2013, during Domestic Violence Awareness month, to Kenwood High School in memory of assistant principal Pam Cooper, who was killed by her ex-husband.

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans (1-4) host the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-5) this week. Kickoff at LP Field (capactiy 69,143) is scheduled for noon CDT on Sunday, October 12th.

This week’s game will be televised regionally on CBS, including Nashville affiliate WTVF News-Channel 5. Andrew Catalon will handle play-by-play duties, while Steve Beuerlein and Steve Tasker will serve as analysts.

Fort Campbell's Morale, Welfare and Recreation - MWRFort Campbell, KY – An astounding one in three women worldwide experiences physical or sexual violence. In some countries, that rate jumps to 70 percent.

Please join the Army Community Service, Family Advocacy Program for a Women’s Warrior Self Defense Class in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

This free event will be held at the Family Resource Center on October 15th from 11:30am to 1:00pm and again at 7:00pm to 8:30pm.
