APSU Student Athletes claim 19 Ohio Valley Conference Academic Medal of Honor Recipients

 

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsBrentwood, TN — Austin Peay State University saw 92 student-athletes recognized by the Ohio Valley Conference as part of its annual academic achievement awards, July 25th.

The OVC annually recognizes those student-athletes who excel in the classroom. The league’s Medal of Honor recognizes those student-athletes with the highest cumulative grade-point average in their conference-sponsored sport.

49 APSU Student Athletes Receive Degrees

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – A record 1,222 students were conferred degrees, Friday, as Austin Peay State University held its 84th Spring Commencement in the Dunn Center and 49 of those were Govs and Lady Govs student-athletes.

The morning commencement saw students earn degrees from the College of Arts and Letters, the College of Science and Mathematics and the School of Technology and Public Management will participate in commencement.

Lady Govs soccer falls in OVC title game

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMorehead, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team saw its run at an Ohio Valley Conference Championship thwarted by No. 1 seed Morehead State, 2-1, Sunday, at Jayne Stadium.

“We had a tremendous year,” head coach Kelley Guth said. “It’s disappointing, but everything has to end. I thought our team came out played a heartfelt game. They laid it all on the line and we just came up one goal short. It’s disappointing, but what a game.”

Lady Govs soccer set for OVC Title Game

 

APSU Women’s Soccer
Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team is ready for the program’s biggest game in history, the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Championship game, at noon, Sunday, against No. 1 Morehead State, at Jaynes Stadium.

The No. 1-seeded Eagles are hosting the title game after making their way through OVC play undefeated at 7-01, the only tie coming at Eastern Illinois. In fact, since the scoreless tie at EIU, Morehead State has won six straight games. As the tournament’s top seed, the Eagles earned a first-round bye and downed the Panthers, 2-1, in the semifinal action.

Robinson’s goal moves Lady Govs soccer to OVC semifinals

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMorehead, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer won the program’s first-ever Ohio Valley Conference Tournament game, 1-0, against No. 5 Murray State, Thursday night in first-round action, at Jayne Stadium.

Sophomore Laurena Robinson scored on a ball from freshman Tatiana Ariza, in the 83rd minute, to advance Austin Peay to a semifinal matchup, Friday night, against No. 2 Southeast Missouri. Robinson has been a utility player for the Lady Govs, seeing time in the defense earlier in the season and most recently filling in as a forward.

Soccer win puts Lady Govs in OVC Tournament

Austin Peay State University GovernorsCookeville, TN – A 2-1 Ohio Valley Conference win against Tennessee Tech has put Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team into the postseason tournament for the second time in program history.

The No. 3-seed Lady Govs will face No. 6 Murray State in first-round action of the 2010 OVC Soccer Championship at 8:00pm, November 4th, in Morehead, KY.

Lady Govs defense locks up EKU for soccer win

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team came one step closer to an Ohio Valley Conference berth with a 1-0 win against Eastern Kentucky, Sunday afternoon, on Senior Day at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.

“It’s a huge win for our team, especially with it being Senior Day,” head coach Kelley Guth said. “I’m extremely pleased with our result and the way we played. They played their hearts out. It’s an exciting day.”

Uphill climb continues for Lady Govs soccer, Friday, against JSU

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team continues Ohio Valley Conference action with a 7:00pm, Friday game against Jacksonville State at Morgan Brother’s Soccer Field. Admission is free for all fans.

The Lady Govs (9-4-1; 1-2-1 OVC) struggled in back-to-back games to develop an offensive attack and followed that with a scoreless tie at Murray State. After posting only five shots on goal in losses to Southeast Missouri and at UT Martin, Austin Peay seemed to get back on track with 21 shots and nine on goal against the Racers.

Redhawks wrap up Lady Govs home stand, Sunday

 

APSU Women’s Soccer

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team looks to carry its momentum from Friday’s win into a 2:00pm, Sunday Ohio Valley Conference match against Southeast Missouri. The game will be broadcast free on www.OVCSports.tv.

The Lady Govs ended a 15-game OVC winless streak with a 1-0 victory against Eastern Illinois, Friday night. Not only was it the first league win in almost two years, it also was the team’s first-ever win against the Panthers. Freshman Tatiana Ariza, the team’s offensive leader, scored the only goal when a powerful shot bounded off an EIU defender in the 29th minute.

Another shutout edges Lady Govs soccer past Western Illinois

 

Austin Peay State University GovernorsA penalty kick by freshman Tatiana Ariza was the difference-maker in Austin Peay State University’s 1-0 win against Western Illinois at the Lady Govs Invitational, Friday.

Austin Peay moves to 3-0, improving the program’s best-ever start. Western Illinois, meanwhile, falls to 0-1-1 .

Tatiana Ariza’s penalty kick came after freshman Emily Kink earned a foul inside the box on an attempt to beat a Western Illinois defender off the dribble. Ariza made the kick in the 43rd minute to give Austin Peay a 1-0 lead at the half that would stand.
