Austin Peay State University posts best-ever finish in Sports Director’s Cup

 

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Thanks to an impressive spring burst, Austin Peay State University finished the 2012-13 campaign with its best-ever finish in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup.

The Govs used national tournament appearances in baseball, men’s golf and men’s tennis to post a total of 108.5 points, good for 151st nationally. It topped the program’s 167th-place finish in 1995-96 – a season that also saw three teams reach the NCAA tournament.

Austin Peay State University announces NCAA Academic Progress Rates

 

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Eight Austin Peay State University (APSU) athletics teams increased or maintained their academic success, according to the latest NCAA Academic Progress Rates (APR) released Tuesday.

Every Division I sports team calculates its APR each academic year, based on the eligibility, graduation and retention of each scholarship student-athlete. Teams scoring below certain thresholds can face consequences, such as practice restrictions and restrictions on postseason competition.

APSU Golf signs international prospect

 

Austin Peay State University Governors SportsClarksville, TN – Coming off the best season in school history, Austin Peay State University men’s golf team has added a top international prospect for the 2013-14 season.

Erik Hedberg Bertrand, a Barcelona, Spain native who had 15 local championships in addition to Top 10 finishes in a pair of prestigious international events over the last two-plus seasons, has signed a national letter of intent to play golf with the Governors.

Austin Peay State University trails in OVC Commissioner’s Cup All-Sport trophy

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – After the completion of the winter sport championships, Eastern Illinois University has taken the lead in the 2012-13 Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Cup all-sport trophy standings; the Cup is a symbol of overall athletic excellence in Conference-sponsored championships.

Barnes and Leaver qualify for Nationwide Tour’s Chiquita Classic

 

Austin Peay State University GovernorsA pair of former Austin Peay State University men’s golfers, Grant Leaver and Erik Barnes, qualified for the Nationwide Tour’s Chiquita Classic, Monday, on different courses.

The Chiquita Classic is being played at the par-72, 7,180-yard, TPC River’s Bend, in Cincinnati. Leaver is set to tee off at 9:00am, Thursday tee time while Barnes is scheduled to go off at 2:10pm, during first-round play.

Call it a significant day for the Austin Peay golf program as its recent success was put on display in the Southern Ohio Section of the Professional Golf Association. Leaver was fresh off his first-ever PGA event, the St. Jude’s Classic, where he missed the cut by only one stroke. This will be Barnes first professional golf event. «Read the rest of this article»
