Austin Peay State University to induct Melissa Gailey-Luckey into 2020 APSU Athletics Hall of Fame

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Thelma had Louise… Cagney had Lacey… Laverne had Shirley… In the annals of Austin Peay State University (APSU) volleyball, Isabel Canedo-Reagan had Melissa Gailey-Luckey.

Canedo-Reagan was the 1991 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year as an outside hitter. She was able to be so productive because Canedo-Reagan had her former junior college teammate, Gailey-Luckey, as her chief setter. The duo helped Austin Peay State University stun the league with the 1991 OVC Tournament Championship. In so doing, they became the first non-Kentucky team to win the crown and only the second Lady Govs program to earn an OVC crown.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Women’s Tennis off to a Quick Start

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – After seeing an Ohio Valley Conference championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament coming up one-win short last April, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s tennis team got off to a quick start to their 2019 season this past weekend in hopes of putting last season’s heartbreaking loss in the OVC finals behind them and get over the final hurdle and a berth into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.

APSU Basketball’s home game against UT Martin to be aired on CBS Sports Network

APSU Men's BasketballBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball contest against UT Martin, January 4th, 2018 is one of seven Ohio Valley Conference contests scheduled to air exclusively on CBS Sports Network this season.

This will be the second straight season the Governors’ home contest against the Skyhawks will be nationally-televised via CBS Sports.

APSU’s Jay Bowen elevated to assistant basketball head coach

APSU Men's Basketball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University head men’s basketball coach Dave Loos announced Tuesday that Jay Bowen has been elevated to assistant head coach.

Bowen, who returned to Austin Peay last season for a second time, has more than 30 years’ experience on the sidelines and is in his third tour of duty alongside Loos—the two coached together at Christian Brothers from 1984-87 and again at Austin Peay in 2001-02.

Austin Peay State University Basketball’s Chris Horton named to Miami Heat’s summer league roster

APSU Men's Basketball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Former Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s basketball standout Chris Horton‘s first shot at the pros will come with the Miami Heat.

Horton was announced as part of the Heat’s roster for the NBA Summer League in Orlando and Las Vegas. Horton and the Heat’s first game will be Saturday, July 2nd in Orlando.

APSU Lady Govs Basketball’s Tiasha Gray named OVC Defensive Player of the Year

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University junior guard Tiasha Gray has been named Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-OVC by a vote of conference coaches and sports information, announced at Tuesday night’s Celebration of Women’s Basketball at the Sheraton Music City.

The Clarksville native becomes the first Austin Peay player to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors since the award’s inception following the 2008-09 season.

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – The most decorated soccer players in Austin Peay State University history will take their talents to the next level.

Tatiana and Natalia Ariza have signed contracts with the Houston Aces of the Women’s Premier Soccer League, the 2013 runners-up in the 11-conference league. With classes still in session, the duo will join the team on weekends when the preseason commences at March’s end before joining the squad full-time upon graduation.

APSU Lady Govs Soccer beats Belmont Bruins 3-1

 

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUNashville, TN – A wet, windy day at E.S. Rose Park could not hold down the Austin Peay State University women’s soccer offense any more than the Belmont defense could. Despite a slower-than-average start, the Lady Govs scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 victory against the Bruins Sunday.
