Tampa, FL – When the teams take the field for the Super Bowl this Sunday, Austin Peay State University (APSU) football fans will see a familiar face patrolling the sidelines in the form of alumnus and former head coach Rick Christophel, now tight ends coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Christophel, a quarterback (1971-74) and head coach (2007-12) for the Govs, becomes the first Austin Peay State University football alumnus to participate in the Super Bowl.
Clarksville, TN – On Thursday, August 29th, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) football team kicks off the 2019 season at Fortera Stadium with a 7:00pm game against North Carolina Central.
After more than nine months of anticipation, the hiring of a highly-respected head coach, two quality signing days, an aggressive spring session and an immersive summer camp, the APSU Governors are ready to take the field.
Clarksville, TN – The Mark Hudspeth era opens this week for the Austin Peay State University (APSU) football program, 7:00pm Thursday, August 29th at Fortera Stadium as the Governors play host to North Carolina Central, in what will be the first of six home games for APSU this season.
It will be the first year the Govs will have six homes games in a season since 2003.

Clarksville, TN – On July 7th last summer, things were quiet here in the United States – just your typical Thursday afternoon. But overseas surrounding a diamond-shaped area in the streets of Geneva, Switzerland, it was a frenzy. It was the day France shocked the soccer world by advancing to the UEFA Euro 2016 final following a 2-0 upset over Germany.
Geneva borders France to the east side, and the locals celebrated the victory for hours, horns honking as each vehicle drove by the crowd of people. Among the gathering was an Austin Peay alum, standing in awe by the abnormality in front of him.
Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay football team will look to earn that elusive first win of the season under first year head coach Kirby Cannon on Saturday, as Jacksonville State comes to Governor’s Stadium for a 4:00pm kick-off.
This the third of four homes this season for the Governors, who will play eight road contests this season.
Austin Peay Governors vs. Ohio Bobcats

Athens, OH – For the first time this season Austin Peay State University’s football team ventures outside the state of Tennessee when it travels north to face Ohio, 1:00pm, Saturday, in Peden Stadium.
This not only will be the Governors’ first out-of-state contest but it as well will be their last non-Ohio Valley Conference game this season.
Clarksville, TN – After failing to play a Southeastern Conference opponent in its first 76 seasons of football existence, Austin Peay will play its second in as many weeks when the Governors travel down the road to Nashville, 6:30pm, Saturday, to play Vanderbilt in Vanderbilt Stadium.
Knoxville, TN – The curtain will rise on the Kirby Cannon Era, 5:00pm, Saturday, when Austin Peay State University plays Tennessee for the first time in program history.
Cannon, who was hired as Austin Peay’s 18th head coach in mid-March, is only the third APSU coach hired in the last 50 years that owned previous college-coaching head-coaching experience.
Clarksville, TN – New APSU head coach Kirby Cannon took his football team to Governor’s Stadium for the first day of spring practice today, thus beginning another chapter in Austin Peay football. The weather was brisk, but the squad looked like they were excited to be on the field, as Cannon started laying the groundwork for what hopes to be a winning program.
