Instant Peay Play: APSU Govs 2019 Football Team is the best in program’s 83-year History

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – In its 83 years of play, since their first season on the gridiron back in 1930, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) football team has had several outstanding seasons they can look back on and argue that they had the best season in program history, but the 2019 incarnation may have lock up the title of best team in program history.

Prior to this season, three or four previous teams could argue they hold the mantle of the program’s best.

APSU to induct Four Governor greats into Athletics Hall of Fame

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will welcome four new inductees into its Athletics Hall of Fame, January 28th, 2017.

Drake Reed, a three-time All-Ohio Valley Conference basketball player and 2008 OVC Champion; Chelsea Harris, the 2010 OVC Women’s Golf Player of the Year and Austin Peay’s lone OVC Championship medalist; and Ron Sebree, one of the league’s most fearsome defensive linemen and a linchpin with the 1977 championship team have been selected for induction as part of the Austin Peay Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2017.

APSU Basketball looks to continue OVC Tournament run against Belmont Bruins tonight

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s stay in the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference tournament has seen the No. 8 seed Governors take down both the No. 5 and No. 4 seeds, Tennessee Tech and Tennessee State, respectively.

If the APSU Govs improbable run is to continue to the league championship game, they will have to take out No. 1 seed Belmont, 6:30pm, Friday, March 4th at Municipal Auditorium.

Ed Bunio forged Hall of Fame playing, coaching career at Austin Peay State University

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – It’s a long way from Carnegie, PA, to Tucson, AZ, in more ways than one. Raised by his grandparents, Ed Bunio needed an athletic scholarship if he wanted to attend college. After his outstanding prep career, Michigan came offering so did Miami…but Bunio chose Arizona.

Some 2,100 miles from home, Bunio literally went from a small town of barely 5,000 people to a campus of 15,000. Bunio loved the campus, the city and all the extracurricular activities that were available. In fact this new world was eye opening, except during the daytime…during class time.
