Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include:

Community Center Hours to Change in Observance of Veterans Day

The City of Clarksville’s three community centers will adjust their hours of operation Thursday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day. The community centers will be open from 10:00am to 7:00pm.

Registration for the Adult Basketball League Has Been Extended

Adults ages 18 and up, now have until Friday, December 10th to sign up for the adult basketball league. Registration can be done at any or our three community centers or at the Parks & Recreation’s main office from 8:00am – 4:30pm. Cost is $300.00 per team.

Yoga

Burt-Cobb Community Center will soon offer a four week yoga session which will meet every Thursday from 6:00pm-7:00pm, beginning November 18th. The cost for the entire session is $18.00.

Archery is Now Being Offered Again

The Kleeman Community Center is now offering two archery classes for youth, grades 4-12. A beginner’s class is held from 4:00pm-5:00pm and an advanced class is held from 5:00pm-6:00pm. Both classes meet every Monday for four weeks. The cost is $10.00 per student for the entire session.

Winter Gym Program

Every year, the Parks & Recreation Department and the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System partner to provide a free winter gymnasium program for recreational basketball free play. The program is offered Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at Byrns-Darden Elementary School Gymnasium from 6:00pm–9:00pm from November 1st, 2010 through March 30th, 2011.Children under 13 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Looking for a job?

We will soon begin accepting applications for certified lifeguards, pool supervisors and concession workers for the Indoor Aquatic Facility which will be coming soon to New Providence Pool.  To fill out an application, please go to our Parks and Recreation main office, located at 102 Public Square beginning November 8th.  Interviews will begin November 15th.

Christmas on the Cumberland

The Christmas on the Cumberland Grand Opening Celebration is set for November 23rd at McGregor Park.  Join us at 6:30pm to watch the entire RiverWalk come to life with over one million lights! This popular Christmas on the Cumberland walk-through event will be open through January 3rd.  Event hours are 5:00pm-10:00pm, Sunday through Thursday and 5:00pm-11:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays.  Throughout the event, there will be several weekend opportunities for children and their families to participate in family oriented activities.  Children of all ages are sure to love Christmas on the Cumberland.  For more information, visit www.cityofclarksville.com.
