Fort Campbell, KY – Early Thursday afternoon, 201 members of the 1st Brigade Combat Team Returned Campbell Army Airfield. As the plane landed, friends and family members screamed and shouted with joy that their love ones were finally home after a year long deployment to Afghanistan.
As soldiers stepped off the plane and moved toward the hanger, they were greeted by several woulded soldiers on hand to welcome them home.
Once inside, Brigadier General Jeffrey N. Colt welcomed everyone home in a short speech to the soldiers. Afterwards everyone was allowed 15 minutes of family time before heading back to their unit to turn in their gear.One excited wife, Hillary Walker was waiting for the return of her husband CPT Dan Walker along with their five day old child. The Walker’s look forward to spending time together as a family in the days ahead. There were severalother fathers who were able to see their children for the first time like SSG Street. His wife was also there to greet him with their 2 week old son.
The next scheduled flight was set to arrive at Campbell Army Airfield yesterday April 20th, 2011 at 6:00pm. If you wish to attend a Welcome Home Ceremony, check the flight schedules online, as times are subject to change at any time. When arriving to Fort Campbell, enter via Gate 7; if you don’t have installation stickers on your vehicle, you will be required to get a visitor pass. From there just follow the signs to the ceremony parking. Waiting buses transport the Family members safely to the hanger.
