Govs add closer Tyler Rogers to 2012 Roster

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team has signed its closer for the 2012 season, adding Tyler Rogers, of Littleton, CO, to a national letter of intent it announced, Monday.

Rogers, a 6-1, 180-pound right-handed pitcher, is one of the best closers in the National Junior College Athletic Association, ranking third nationally with 10 saves for head coach Chris Finnegan. He also has a 5-1 record with a 1.62 ERA in 26 appearances this season, compiling 41 strikeouts in 39 innings pitched.

“Tyler will be a welcomed addition to our bullpen after being the closer this season at Garden City Community College,” said McClure. “He is a submarine/side-arm pitcher with a good fast ball and the off-speed stuff to be successful at this level of baseball. He will be a great addition to our team as we will be losing this year’s closer Ryne Harper. I believe Tyler is a great fit for our program both in timing and in filling a major need. “

Rogers became the Broncbusters closer this season after serving as a setup man during his freshman campaign, tossing 24 innings in 24 games and finishing with a 1-1 record, one save and a 4.50 ERA.

Rogers becomes the fourth pitching addition in Austin Peay’s eight-man incoming class.
