The Ed Temple Classic is the season’s second meet for the Lady Govs and a good marker of where they stand after three-week Christmas break.

“Wednesday is our first day back and how our winter training went is always a big question,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “A lot of it is up to them over the break. They have their workouts and hopefully the weather breaks decently for them.”

After taking home fifth-place in the mile-relay at the Saluki Fast Start, look for the Lady Govs to continue to run well with a relay anchored by newcomer Chantelle Grey. Besides the fifth-place finish in the mile-relay, Grey also took home a victory in the 600-meter run at the Saluki Fast Start finishing in 1:34.76.

“Grey should be right up there in the conference,” said Molnar. “She has the ability to run and be a national-caliber 800-meter runner.”

In the field events, Tanesha Campbell will lead the way for the Lady Govs after sitting out last season. Campbell will compete in the shot put and weight throw.

“Campbell should be one of the conference favorites all year long in the shot put and weight throw,” said Molnar. “She is going to be a huge addition. We are excited to have her back full-time.”
