APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Golf
Ledbetter, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team could not convert on the greens and, as a result, find itself in seventh place after Monday’s first two rounds of the Drake Creek Invitational, being held at Drake Creek Golf Club.The Lady Govs shots rounds of 310 and 309 for an opening-day 619 on the par-72, 6,178-yard layout. Central Arkansas jumped to the front with a second-round 293 for a two-round 599. Host Murray State is in second (600), followed by Arkansas State (601), Belmont (601), Columbia (606) and Southern Illinois (613). The tourney’s final round will be played Tuesday.
“We played well as a whole,” APSU interim coach Chelsea Harris said. “I’m pleased with the way we’ve been hitting the ball, but adjusting to the greens was an issue today. We missed several short putts for birdie and par.
It was the Par 4s that led to the Lady Govs undoing Monday. APSU was tied for second on Par 3s at 4-over par. However, on the 12 Par 4s, the Govs were 48-over par.
Senior Lauren Bond was the most consistent of the Lady Govs, shooting 76-74 for 150, a round that included five birdies. She is tied for 13th.
Freshman Jessica Cathey bounced back from an opening-round 80 with a 78 in the afternoon. Both Tabitha Beard 80-82=162) and Holly Batey (84-78=162) round out the Lady Govs’ team scores.
Sophomore Meghan Mueller, playing as an individual, shot a 166 (84-82).
