Smith, a 5-10, 190-pound infielder and catcher, has prepped at Germantown High School where he played last season for Austin Peay alumnus Casey Callaway. He was an All-Region 8 and Commercial Appeal All-Metro selection the past two seasons. Smith was ranked among the top 100 prospects in Tennessee by www.PerfectGame.org.

Smith was named to the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Super Sophomore team in 2011 after batting .362 with 34 RBI and 17 doubles. He also played on the 2012 Team Tennessee squad that was part of the Junior Sunbelt Classic.

“We believe Ridge is the best catching prospect in the state and is a big signing for us,” said Governors head coach Gary McClure. “He is a throwback type player, as he is always dirty, always plays at a high energy level, and will do whatever he has to do day in and day out to help his team win. He possesses an outstanding arm behind the plate and is very advanced as a catcher. He’s a winner and a tremendous student who without a doubt is the type of kid you want in your program.”
