Austin Peay State University Lady Govs Golf to open spring season at Murray in Time Warner Racer Classic

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsMurray, KY – A break in the weather could not have come at a better time for Austin Peay State University women’s golf team. The Lady Govs will open the 2013 spring schedule, Monday and Tuesday, by playing in the Time Warner Racer Classic at the Miller Memorial Golf Course.

The tournament will have an Ohio Valley Conference flavor to it. In addition to host Murray State and the Lady Govs, Belmont, Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee State will be there along with Drury and Lipscomb.

“We are mentally preparing ourselves to play in some adverse weather if necessary, although the forecast is getting a little better as each day passes, so hopefully by Monday the weather will be improved,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “We are also preparing for a fairly wet golf course and, therefore, the course will be playing long.”

The Lady Govs will feature a lineup that will see freshman Jessica Cathey, who finished the fall as APSU’s top golfer, leading the way. In addition, senior Holly Batey; junior Rachel Deaton, who missed much of the fall with a physical ailment; junior Tala Mumford and senior Tabitha Beard will represent the Lady Govs. In addition , senior Lauren Bond and sophomore Meghan Mueller will play as individuals.

“They are excited about getting the season started and ready to play well this week at Murray,” said Robson. “We have been focusing on hitting our longer clubs and making our short game a priority. I look for this to pay off and help us play well this week.

“The girls will need to be mentally tough, confident and focused this week so we can play to our ability and finish strong.”
