TDOT to hold Second Series of Public Meetings for I-24 Corridor Study; Clarksville meeting October 3rd

Study to Identify Improvements for the 185 mile Interstate Corridor

Tennessee Department of TransportationNashville, TN – Tennessee’s strategic corridors are major highways creating the backbone of the state’s transportation system. They form an interconnected highway network carrying a large portion of the state’s traffic linking major activity centers, including urban areas, growing, smaller cities, tourist areas and employment centers.

These corridors are fundamental to Tennessee’s economic development goals. They are also the highways under the highest stress due to increasing traffic growth, especially freight movement.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is working with Atkins North America, Inc. to complete the I-24 Multimodal Corridor Study, which will identify short and long-term solutions for improving problem spots along the entire I-24 corridor. It is anticipated that this study will be completed in January 2014.

TDOT is conducting the study to identify improvements for the 185-mile Interstate 24 corridor from Kentucky State Line to I-75 in Hamilton County. TDOT will conduct a second series of public meetings to present the identified transportation deficiencies, discuss project rankings, final reports of study and receive comments from public and key stakeholders.

The second set of meetings will be held in separate locations in Region II and Region III of the state during October; each meeting will run from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. The specific dates and locations of these meetings are listed below.

During each meeting, there will be a formal presentation to provide the background and current status of the project. The public is invited to ask questions and make comments during the meeting. Information gathered during these meetings will be considered in the prioritization of potential solutions.

More information regarding the project may be found at http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/i24/
