Austin Peay will play two preseason exhibition contests, hosting St. Catherine on a busy November 1st at the Dunn Center followed by a November 9th contest against Martin Methodist.

“When you are in the sports world there are a few dates on the calendar you always highlight and have a countdown toward, for us the start of practice is definitely one of those dates,” said Lady Govs head coach Carrie Daniels. “All of the hard work through the summer and the preseason conditioning is about to culminate and show on the hardwood.”

Daniels, in her eighth season at the helm, will guide an experienced team through its preseason paces. The Lady Govs return four starters and 10 letterwinners from last season’s squad that had a February burst but could not maintain the momentum and just missed qualifying for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament.

“As a staff we have been looking forward to this day since last March,” said Daniels. “We’ve put last season behind us & are ready to forge ahead with a talented group of young ladies who we believe will battle and compete in practice each day to prepare us for this season’s schedule.”

Junior guard Tiasha Gray, senior guard Kristen Stainback, junior forward Jennifer Nwokocha and sophomore center Beth Rates return to form the foundation of the 2014-15 Lady Govs. In addition, sophomore center Tearra Banks returns after earning OVC All-Freshman team honors last season. That quintet also constitutes the Lady Govs top five scorers and rebounders from last season’s squad.

Joining the large group of returnees are five newcomers as Daniels will fill out her maximum 15-person roster for this season. Daniels added three guards, a forward and a center to bolster her lineup. Falon Baker, Savannah Foister and Madison Rich are the three new guards, Sydney Gooch joins a thin forward position while Brianne Alexander joins Rates and Banks at center. Each of the five rookies will be expected to contribute this season.
