Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University athletics and the National Alumni Association will play host to the APSU Basketball Reunion, Saturday, February 7th.
This year’s reunion will be centered around the Govs and Lady Govs basketball games with rival Murray State, with the women’s game starting at 4:30pm and the men’s contest at 7:00pm.
This is the second alumni basketball reunion sponsored by the National Alumni Association. Last year’s reunion honored the 2003-04 Govs’ basketball team that went 16-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play.This year’s celebration begins with “Lunch with the Legends” as alumni and fans will have an opportunity to dine and mingle with APSU basketball alums in the Governors Stadium Club from noon-1:30pm.
Also, a panel of former players, including Steve Miller, a standout during the 1960s; Richie Armstrong, point guard on the 1987 championship team that beat Illinois; Gerlonda Hardin, star post player for the 2001-04 Lady Govs title teams; Brooke Armistead, who helped lead the Lady Govs to a trio of OVC titles and is the only Lady Gov to her jersey retired; longtime radio play-by-play man Greg Walker, and Fernandez Lockett, a 1,000-point scorer who played on the 1997 title team, will discuss some of the teams and their experiences.
The luncheon is complimentary to basketball alums and their guests while tickets are $10.00 for non-basketball alums.
Later in the afternoon, between 3:30pm-5:30pm, a pregame mix and mingle will be held at The Gilroy on University Avenue.
Complimentary tickets will be available for alums wanting to attend the Lady Govs and Governors basketball games that night with the Racers. In addition, all basketball alums will be recognized in a ceremony between the two contests
