Right away, the Lady Govs will see the return of two of their most important pieces, as Chancis Jones and Kaylnn Pitts both are slated for returns this weekend.

Pitts will test herself early with an appearance in Friday’s triple jump and also compete in Saturday’s long jump, while Jones will work only in the long jump (her specialty) and some sprint work this week.

Pitts won the triple jump at Vanderbilt last season (12.28m) and was third in the long jump (5.56m), while Jones also recorded a top-five finish in the latter event (5.49m, fourth). They’ll be tested in the long jump by Memphis’ Sydney Wright (14th in the NCAA East) and Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Champion Clairwin Dameus of Tennessee State.

While Pitts and Jones missed most of indoor season due to injury, freshmen Dascha Hix and Savannah Amato kept Austin Peay’s field events among the OVC elite, with Hix taking gold in the OVC Indoor Championships. The duo will get their first taste of collegiate outdoor pole vaulting this weekend in a field that includes Memphis’ Dorina Baiker (17th in the NCAA East Region) and Illinois’ Jennifer DeBellis (20th in the West Region).

On the track, senior Kymmalett Ross looks to build on her impressive indoor season; the 2016 OVC Indoor Championships 55m gold-medalist will run the 100m and 400m dashes this week. Also pulling double-duty will be junior Myiah Johnson, who will run the 100m and 400m hurdles; she won the 100m event two seasons ago at Vanderbilt.

Another Governor who fought through injury during indoor season, senior Breigh Jones will compete in the 800m this weekend; Ross and OVC bronze medalist Terri Morris will hold down the fort in the 400m for the Govs.

The Govs will return to action next weekend at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, FL.
