Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team took the doubles point and hung on for a crucial 4-3 victory against Murray State at the APSU Foy Fitness Center Tennis Courts, Tuesday afternoon.
In picking up its second conference win in its last three outings, Austin Peay (4-9, 3-4 OVC) remains in the hunt for a spot in the conference tournament.The loss drops Murray State to 8-9 overall (3-4 OVC).
In doubles, Claudia Yanes Garcia and Brittney Covington got Austin Peay off to a solid start with a 6-3 win at No. 2 against Amina Hadzic and Megan Blue. The Govs clinched the point with a superb effort from Isabela Jovanovic and Hannah Tatlock at No. 3, where they polished off Alina Schibol and Jeanne Masson, 7-6.
Claudia Yanes Garcia easily dispatched Haily Morgan (6-0, 6-0) for APSU’s first singles win, while her sister Lidia took down Blue with similar ease (6-1, 6-0). Straight-set losses for Tatlock, Covington and Helena Kuppig were offset by a fantastic effort from Jovanovic, who defeated Masson 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 to secure the victory.
The Govs return to action this weekend against Tennessee State (Friday) and Belmont (Saturday).
