Couple thanks Clarksville Gas and Water Technician for quick action
Clarksville, TN – A City of Clarksville Gas and Water Department worker provided a bit of Good Samaritan service in addition to his regular duties during Holy Week.
Jody Biter, Clarksville Gas and Water service technician, was completing a shut-off in the Allenwood Drive area Wednesday morning when he heard someone cry out for help. He looked and found an elderly woman who had fallen from the porch of a nearby home and had seriously injured her leg.
The woman’s husband contacted Gas & Water officials Thursday and said he wants Biter to know how much the couple appreciates what he did. The man said his wife had suffered a broken leg and damage to her knee.
“I didn’t really tell anybody about it but my wife, so I was surprised when (G&W Construction Supervisor) Shane Davenport came up this morning and shook my hand,” Biter said Friday. “Shane said the woman’s husband had contacted him and asked him to thank me. Really, I was glad to help out. I guess I was just in the right place at the right time.”
On Friday, Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan thanked Biter and presented him with a Mayor’s Coin in recognition of his caring response to the woman’s dilemma.
Clarksville Gas & Water Director Pat Hickey said it’s common for the department’s in-field service personnel to help residents when the need arises.
“I’m proud that our meter readers and service technicians have the public’s best interest in mind when they are out in the community doing their jobs,” Hickey said. “Jody was alert and did the right thing, and that reflects well on all of us at Gas & Water and at the City of Clarksville.”
