Clarksville Police Department Scam of the Day for February 26th, 2018

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department is going to make the public aware of some of the scams that they receive daily. CPD knows there are an unlimited amounts of scams, but they are going to try and put out the ones where people have actually suffered a loss.

Clarksville Police have put out similar scam warnings about purchases online.

The victim saw a 2014 Honda Accord advertised on Craigslist, out of Memphis, for $2500.

Scams

She contacted the seller through email to purchase the car. She was sent an invoice and an agreement was made to send the $2500 using eBay gift cards.

She was contacted a short time later and was told that another $1000 was needed for insurance costs.

The victim called the person who sent the invoice, at a number originally believed to be customer and discovered it was not truly customer service. She confronted the individual on the phone and was promptly hung up on.

EBay was contacted and a hold has been put on the gift cards.

The scam was successful.
