Austin Peay State University’s Clay Target Team wins sporting clays National Championship

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) Clay Target Team won the national collegiate title in sporting clays at the Scholastic Clay Target Program national championships recently in Marengo, Ohio.

And one of the team’s members, John Michael Baggett, won three individual national championships, including best overall shooter.

Baggett, Hunter Purviance and Wylie Randall won the national championship in sporting clays July 15th, beating the Central Georgia Elite Shooters and the KCCL Orange Crushers from Michigan by two points. Baggett won the individual title with the top overall score of 179.

The team also finished runner-up in collegiate doubles skeet on July 19th, falling four points short of the Union Grove Broncos Shooting Club from Wisconsin. Purviance had the third-highest score in the competition, 96

Baggett also won the national collegiate title in skeet, with a score of 198, on July 13th.

The team finished in the top 10 in several other team and individual events.

The strong performance at nationals followed up a dominant showing at the Tennessee state championships last month, in which the team, including club president Makayla Boisseau, won four team titles and seven individual titles.
