APSU Football’s JaVaughn Craig named CFPA National Performer of the Week

APSU FootballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) senior quarterback JaVaughn Craig has been named College Football Performance Award’s National Offensive Player of the Week for his work in Saturday’s win at Tennessee Tech.

The purpose of the CFPA is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

The Chattanooga Tennessee native accounted for seven touchdowns in Saturday’s 58-21 victory, equaling the program record with five passing scores and adding two more on the ground.

On a blustery day, Craig went 16-of-23 passing for 291 yards, then added 84 yards on seven carries, tossing touchdown passes of 46, 30, 5, 53 and 9 yards, then adding scampers of 1 and 27 yards to round out his day. In the face of stiff winds and multiple pressures, Craig consistently bought time with his feet and led the Govs in rushing as well as passing.

On a day when the entire league found itself playing in adverse weather conditions, Craig’s performance stood out. He scored more points by himself (42) than any other team in the league (Eastern Kentucky had 33) and put up more points by himself than the other three league games featured in total (EKU and Eastern Illinois combined for 39, Southeast Missouri and UT Martin 27, Murray State and Jacksonville State 26).

Craig is the first Governor to earn CFPA National Performer of the Week honors, and the first Governor to earn a weekly honor of any kind from the CFPA since 2010 (Terrence Holt).
