Tennessee Women’s Basketball loses at #6/5 Texas A&M, 80-70

College Station, TX – No. 16/19 Tennessee women’s basketball pulled within one late in the fourth but couldn’t overcome a No. 6/5 Texas A&M team that shot 63 percent from the floor in the final quarter and also hit 17 of 22 free throws in that period, falling 80-70 in Reed Arena on Sunday afternoon. 
 
Senior Rennia Davis led Tennessee (12-5, 6-3 SEC) with 25 points and added four rebounds, marking her fourth game this season and 17th of her career with 20 or more points. Sophomore Tamari Key turned in her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Tennessee Lady Vols had no answer to Texas A&M in 79-62 loss

College Station, TX – The Tennessee Lady Vols outscored No. 21/22 Texas A&M 20-17 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome an Aggies team that scored 27 points on nearly 70-percent shooting in the third quarter to send the Lady Vols to a 79-62 setback in Reed Arena.
 
UT (17-9, 6-7 SEC) was led in scoring by sophomore guard Evina Westbrook who had 17 points and five assists. Senior forward Cheridene Green posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Rennia Davis also managed double digits, finishing the day with 10 points.

Knoxville, TN – The Tennessee Lady Vols (17-8, 6-6 SEC) is back on the road to take on No. 21/22 Texas A&M (19-6, 8-4 SEC) on Thursday night in College Station, Texas. Tip-off is slated for 8:02pm CT (9:02pm ET) at Reed Arena in a contest that is being carried by the SEC Network.

Including this match-up, the Tennessee Lady Vols have four contests remaining during the regular season. Two are at home (No. 13/13 South Carolina, Vanderbilt) and two are away (No. 21/22 Texas A&M, Ole Miss). UT is closing out a five-game stint where it has played four of those five contests on the road. UT is 2-1 on the road and 1-0 at home during that stretch.

#1 Tennessee Vols Basketball defeats Texas A&M on the road, 93-76

College Station, TX – With a 93-76 victory at Texas A&M Saturday night, No. 1 Tennessee Vols set the program record for consecutive wins at 16 games.

The Vols (20-1, 8-0 SEC) had one of their best offensive performances of the season Saturday, shooting a blazing-hot 65 percent from the field, including a 74 percent (31-of-42) mark on two-point field-goal attempts. Tennessee also assisted on a season-high 28 baskets in the game.

Jordan Bone had another impressive outing at the point, dropping 18 points on 7-of-7 shooting from the floor with 10 assists.

College Station, TX – Riding a 15-game win streak, No. 1 Tennessee Vols basketball team has a chance to set the program record for consecutive victories Saturday night on the road against Texas A&M at Reed Arena.

The game will tip at 7:00pm CT and will be televised on ESPN and can also be viewed online through WatchESPN. Fans can listen live on their local Vol Network affiliate to hear Bob Kesling and Bert Bertelkamp describing the action.

The UT record for consecutive wins has stood for more than a century, dating back to a 15-game stretch during the 1915-17 seasons.

Knoxville, TN – No. 20/17 Tennessee (12-4, 1-3 SEC) plays its second straight road contest, as the Lady Vols head to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama (9-8, 1-3 SEC) on Thursday night, January 17th. Tip-off is slated for 8:02pm CT (9:02pm ET) at Coleman Coliseum, with the game being carried by the SEC Network and the Lady Vol Radio Network.

This marks the 46th meeting between these programs, with Alabama holding a four-game winning streak over the Lady Vols and taking the past two games in Tuscaloosa. In addition to attempting to halt that series streak, the Lady Vols will be seeking to end a three-game losing skid that began on January 6th. UT has lost its last three contests to Missouri (66-64), Kentucky (73-71) and Georgia (66-62) by a combined total of eight points.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Track and Field’s Savannah Amato adds another chapter to likely Hall of Fame career

Clarksville, TN – Over the years Austin Peay State University has had several student athletes that were among the best to ever compete in the Ohio Valley Conference and current Governors track and field standout Savannah Amato continued to add to her marvelous and probable APSU Hall of Fame career, with a record-breaking performance January 20th, 2018 at the Samford Open.

Amato, a junior pole vaulter from Delaware, OH, broke the school indoor record that stood for eight years with a vault of 4.15 meters (13-7.25 feet), breaking the old mark of 4.13m set by Molly Bartkiewicz.

This marks the 55th meeting between these schools in women’s basketball, and the Lady Vols and Gamecocks will face off again on February 25th in UT’s Senior Day game in Knoxville.

#6 Tennessee Lady Vols lose 79-76 at #17 Texas A&M in Overtime

College Station, TX – Danni Williams made three free throws with 7.8 seconds remaining in overtime to put No. 17/16 Texas A&M ahead and help hand No. 6/6 Tennessee its first loss of the season, 79-76, on Thursday night at Reed Arena.
 
Mercedes Russell recorded 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Vols (15-1, 3-1 SEC). The loss marks the first time Tennessee has dropped a game since being eliminated from last year’s NCAA tournament on March 20th.
 
Khaalia Hillsman led the Aggies (14-4, 3-1 SEC) with 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor and added 11 boards. Williams chipped in 22 of her own while going 3-for-7 from 3-point range. Texas A&M has now won its past two match-ups with the Lady Vols and the last two meetings in College Station, both in overtime.

#6 Tennessee Lady Vols hit the road to face #17 Texas A&M

Knoxville, TN – No. 6/6 Tennessee begins a three-game road swing, as the Lady Vols travel to College Station, Texas, to face No. 17/16 Texas A&M at 6:10pm CT (7:10pm ET) on Thursday, January 11th, 2018.

The Lady Vols’ match-up with Texas A&M is the first of four straight UT contests vs. teams ranked in the AP Top 20.  The Lady Vols and Aggies will be meeting for the 11th time overall and third time in College Station during the series.

The Lady Vols will be aiming to go 16-0 for only the fourth occasion in school history and for the first time during the Holly Warlick era.  The last time Tennessee began a season 16-0, the Lady Vols extended the streak to 18 games before finally falling during the 2005-06 season en route to a 31-5 overall record and an Elite Eight finish.
