Instant Peay Play: APSU Football’s defense continues to stifle opponents run game

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) football team continues to be one of the best run-stopping defenses in the nation, as this past weekend in Macon, GA, the Governors held the Mercer Bears rushing attack to less than 50 yards from scrimmage.

In giving up just 43 net yards from scrimmage on the ground to Mercer, it marks the third straight week the Govs run defense has allowed their opponents less than 60 total rushing yards net in a contest, with APSU giving up 53 yards to North Carolina Central in the season opener on August 29th and 32 yards to Central Arkansas on September 7th.

“I believe there is a process in making that happen,” he said when talking about building a winning culture. “Whether it’s fundraising, building character or a foundation to help us get to the next level, it’s not going to happen overnight. It has to be done the right way, and we’re going to do it the right way.”

The Governors finished the 2017 season with a school record tying eight wins and a second-place finish in the Ohio Valley Conference standings, with its only conference loss coming against Jacksonville State – who won the OVC title for a record-tying fourth straight season and 32 straight games in conference play overall.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Governors Athletic Department had great 2017-18 School Year

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – With baseball and track and field putting a wrap on their respective season’s this past week, Austin Peay State University’s athletic department saw the end to a very successful 2017-18 school year.

Overall, the department posted a combined win-loss record of 200-167-3 over the school year, with 10 of the 16 teams (baseball, men’s basketball, football, men’s golf, women’s basketball, women’s golf, soccer, softball, women’s tennis and volleyball) finishing with .500-or-better records.

Austin Peay State University signs APSU Football head coach Will Healy to Four Year Contract

APSU FootballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University and head football coach Will Healy have signed a new four-year contract, athletics director Ryan Ivey announced Wednesday afternoon. The new agreement begins January 1st, 2018 through the end of the 2021 calendar year.

The new four-year contract includes a base salary increase that will place Healy among the top three salaries in the Ohio Valley Conference. In addition, Healy may receive bonus compensation for specific team performance achievements both on the field and in the classroom.
