Instant Peay Play: With APSU Football season’s close, Govs fans now turn full attention to Basketball

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – With the Austin Peay State University (APSU) football team seeing it’s historic and magical season come to an end this past Friday, in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Football Championship Division postseason tournament, Governors fans will now turn their full attention to basketball as Ohio Valley Conference play looms right around the corner.

Just two and a half weeks, and a hand full of games, remain for the APSU Govs men’s and women’s basketball teams before the start of OVC play, with the men’s team currently owning a 4-5 overall record, while the women’s team has posted a 6-2 overall mark to this point in the season.

Austin Peay State University Women’s Basketball defeats Alabama A&M, 67-61

 

APSU Women's BasketballHuntsville, AL – Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s basketball junior Kelen Kenol came out aggressive in her season’s first start, propelling the Govs to a 67-61 victory on the road in a hostile environment, Saturday, against Alabama A&M. Kenol finished the day with a career-high 15 points, three rebounds, two steals, and a block.

APSU Basketball falls at Illinois, 64-57

APSU Men's BasketballChampaign, IL – To the final whistle, to the final loose ball, to the very last moment, Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team sought to make a little magic against Big Ten foe Illinois, Wednesday.

The Govs had chances into the final minute but couldn’t get one last dagger to fall, dropping a hotly-contested 64-57 contest to the Fighting Illini at the State Farm Center.

Austin Peay State University Cheerleading Squad finishes fifth nationally in its division

 

APSU Sports: APSU Cheerleading Squad

Austin Peay State UniversityDaytona Beach, FL – Austin Peay State University cheerleading squad finished fifth in the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Division I championships held this week at the Band Shell/Ocean Center/Peabody Auditorium.

APSU’s cheer squad competed in the prelims earlier in the week to reach the championship round along with Grambling, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin and Central Arkansas.  Sam Houston State won Friday’s championships.
