Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University baseball coach Gary McClure became the Ohio Valley Conference all-time wins leader — in his first attempt — Friday night at Raymond C. Hand Park, but more importantly the Govs continued their winning ways in conference play defeating Tennessee Tech, 7-3.
The win was the 777th for McClure — in his 26th season — as he breaks the tie with former longtime coach of Murray State, Johnny Reagan, who led the Racers from 1958 to 1993.

Clarksville, TN – A battle of the Ohio Valley Conference’s second and third place teams will take place when Austin Peay hosts Tennessee Tech in a three-game set, Friday-Sunday, at Raymond C. Hand Park.
With the 11-week OVC regular-season race entering its fifth week, the second-place Governors sit just percentage points ahead of the third-place Golden Eagles.

Bowling Green, KY – Shut out through seven innings, Austin Peay State University’s baseball team rallied for three runs in the final two innings to secure a 3-1 victory against Western Kentucky, Wednesday night, at Nick Denes Field.
The win was Austin Peay head coach Gary McClure’s 776th career win, tying the Ohio Valley Conference record for career wins set by former Murray State head coach Johnny Reagan.

Clarksville, TN – When Billy Merkel stepped down as Austin Peay State University baseball coach in Fall 1987, then-athletics director Bob Brooks had a decision to make: begin a search for a replacement, possibly interrupting fall practice and workouts, or name Gary McClure, the program’s graduate assistant, as interim coach.
It would be unfair to call Governors baseball an afterthought back then-APSU only had one Ohio Valley Conference title (1972) prior to that, but it certainly was not at the forefront of any APSU athletics discussions.

Clarksville, TN – Gary McClure, Austin Peay State University’s all-time winningest baseball coach who has taken his Governors to five NCAA Regionals, and Dr. W. Cooper Beazley, whose dedication to APSU athletics and its athletes extends well beyond financial contributions and services, have been named to 2013 APSU Athletics Hall of Fame.
In addition, Andrew Lorentzson, who starred in basketball for Austin Peay in the mid-1930s when it was a junior college, also will be inducted into the APSU’s Athletic Hall of Fame through the new Honors category, reserved for those former athletes who competed at least 50 years ago.

The Govs will not know their opponent for Thursday’s contest until the conclusion of Wednesday’s opening-round action.

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay’s baseball team begins a four-game homestand when it hosts in-state rival Middle Tennessee in a 6:00pm, Wednesday contest at Raymond C. Hand Park. It will be the 196th all-time meeting between the two teams.

Jackson, TN – Austin Peay State University starting pitcher Jeremy Dobbs was named the Ohio Valley Conference’s “Pitcher of the Year,” head coach Gary McClure received his fifth “Coach of the Year” citation and 10 Austin Peay baseball student-athletes received postseason recognition, the league office announced during the postseason baseball awards banquet, Tuesday night.

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team will host Southeast Missouri with the Ohio Valley Conference’s regular-season title waiting in the wings.
