Tennessee Women’s Basketball hits last second shot to beat Auburn 56-55

 

UT Lady VolsAuburn, AL – Tennessee Lady Vols basketball junior Rennia Davis tallied a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, and freshman Jordan Horston hit a runner in the lane with 0.6 seconds left on the clock to lift the Lady Vols to a crucial 56-55 win at Auburn to close out the regular season on Sunday afternoon.

The victory improved the Lady Vols’ record to 20-9 overall and 10-6 in the SEC, earning them a four-way tie for third place in the SEC regular season with Texas A&M, Kentucky and Arkansas.

Based on the tie-breaking format, UT earns the No. 6 seed for next week’s SEC Tournament and will play at 7:30pm CT on Thursday at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, SC.

UT Lady VolsAuburn, AL – The Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team (19-9, 9-6 SEC) closes out the regular season on the road, taking on the Auburn Tigers (10-16, 4-11 SEC) in their Senior Day game on Sunday afternoon at Auburn Arena. Tip-off is slated for 2:05pm CT (3:05pm ET).

This will mark the first meeting of 2019-20 between the Lady Vols and AU, who stand tied for fifth and in 12th, respectively, in the SEC standings entering the final game of the regular season.

The Big Orange women have bounced back from the roughest part of their schedule to emerge victorious in their last two games and equal last season’s final victory total.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Tennessee Lady Vols basketball (18-9, 8-6 SEC) is back at Thompson-Boling Arena on Thursday night for the final regular season home game. Ole Miss (7-20, 0-14 SEC) comes to town for a 6:02pm CT contest vs. the Lady Vols.

UT and the Rebels met in Oxford, MS, on January 9th, with the Big Orange cruising to an 84-28 victory in the Pavilion at Ole Miss.  This will mark the 56th contest in a rivalry that began in 1977. UT leads the series, 47-8, and has won 31 of the past 32.

The Lady Vols are tied for sixth place in the SEC standings with LSU at 8-6, residing two games ahead of Alabama, Florida and Georgia (6-8). Arkansas and Kentucky are a game ahead in a tie for fourth (9-5).

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team (17-9, 7-6 SEC), which is receiving votes in this week’s AP and USA TODAY Coaches Polls, returns home to host in-state foe Vanderbilt (13-13, 3-10 SEC) on Sunday in a 11:02pm CT matinee at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The Lady Vols and Commodores met in Nashville on January 30th, with UT coming away with a 78-69 victory in Memorial Gymnasium. This will mark the 84th contest in a rivalry that began in 1976. UT leads the series, 73-10, and has won 11 of the past 12, with Vandy picking up its first-ever victory in Knoxville last season on February 28th, 76-69.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball falls at LSU, 75-65

 

UT Lady VolsBaton Rouge, LA – The #25 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team pulled within one but couldn’t overcome a 26-point fourth-quarter surge by LSU, falling 75-65 Thursday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
 
Junior forward Rennia Davis led Tennessee (17-7, 7-4 SEC) with 19 points and six rebounds. Redshirt senior Lou Brown and freshman Tamari Key were nearly in double digits, finishing with nine points each.
 
Khayla Pointer and Awa Trasi were the top scorers for the Tigers (18-5, 8-3 SEC) with 24 and 22, respectively.

#23/24 Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball blows out Portland State, 88-61

 

UT Lady VolsPortland, OR – The No. 23/24 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team shot a scorching 51.4 percent from the floor and 46.2 percent from behind the arc on Saturday, defeating Portland State in Viking Pavilion, 88-61.
 
Sophomore Rae Burrell led Tennessee (9-2) in scoring, narrowly missing a double-double with a career-high 21 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Jordan Horston was close behind, also setting a career high with 20 points. Junior Rennia Davis recorded her tenth rebound of the game just over two minutes into the second half to solidify the 24th double-double of her career. She went on to collect a season-high 13 rebounds while scoring 18 points.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball falls late to Texas, 66-60

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The No. 17/19 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday, falling to Texas in Thompson-Boling Arena, 66-60.
 
Tennessee (7-1) was led by junior Rennia Davis who finished the day with 15 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Jazmine Massengill was also in double figures for the Lady Vols with 10. Junior Kasiyahna Kushkituah led the team in rebounding with nine. Overall, Tennessee won the rebounding battle at 54-42.
 
Seniors Sug Sutton and Lashann Higgs were the leading scorers for Texas (5-4), posting 19 each.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball shoots down Air Force, 81-54

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – In the first meeting between the teams, No. 20/25 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team defeated Air Force, 81-54, Sunday afternoon in Thompson-Boling Arena to open the season 7-0 for fifth time in the past 10 years.

With a season-high crowd of 8,032 looking on, nine different players scored for the Big Orange. UT tallied 56 points inside the paint, had 23 points created from 22 Air Force (1-7) turnovers and shot a season-high 54.8 percent from the field. UT knocked down a sizzling 66.7 percent of its shots in the second quarter and 64.7 percent in the third period.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball take down #16/14 Notre Dame on the road, 74-63

 

UT Lady VolsNotre Dame, IN Rennia Davis tied her career high of 33 points to lead Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team (3-0) to victory over No. 16/14 Notre Dame on the road on Monday night, 74-63. It was the Lady Vols’ first victory on the road in the series since 2008.
 
Davis, the 6-foot-2 junior from Jacksonville, FL, also pulled down 10 boards to record her second double-double of the season and the 20th of her career. Freshmen Jordan Horston and Tamari Key were also in double digits for UT with 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Jazmine Massengill narrowly missed a double-double, pulling down a team-high 13 rebounds and dishing out nine assists to set new career highs in both categories.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Tennessee Lady Vols basketball hits the court for its lone exhibition game of 2019-20 on Tuesday, facing off vs. NCAA Division II school Carson-Newman at 6:02pm Central at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville.

The contest will mark the seventh-straight year UT embarks on a campaign with one exhibition game on its schedule and the 16th season in a row it faces C-N in an exhibition contest. UT is 15-0 in previous preseason meetings and 14-2 all-time in regular-season match-ups vs. the Lady Eagles.

UT opens the season vs. East Tennessee at 6:00pm CT on Tuesday, November 5th, at Freedom Hall in Johnson City.
