In what will be the 10th meeting between the two programs, Tennessee will look to recover from a 72-63 loss to Alabama while the Tigers are looking to extend their streak of consecutive wins to five. UT will be looking to snap a five-game venue losing streak at Maples, last winning on Stanford’s home court on December 4th, 2005. The Lady Vols will be aiming to go 12-0 for only the fifth occasion in school history and for the first time during the Holly Warlick era. The last time Tennessee began a season 12-0, the Lady Vols extended the streak to 18 games before finally falling during the 2005-06 season en route to a 31-5 overall record. Incidentally, that was the last time UT beat the Cardinal in Maples.

In the midst of their best stretch of the season, the No. 7 seed Lady Vols (22-13) have won six of their last seven games to advance to the 28th Elite Eight in program history. Despite reaching the Sweet 16, Ohio State (26-8) finished the season losing four of its last seven. Russell’s dominance throughout the game led to her best performance donning the orange, scoring a career-high 25 points on 12-of-16 shooting. DeShields scored 14 points in the second half and her energy on defense helped Tennessee (19-12) limit the Aggies (21-9) to just 35.8-percent shooting. She and Graves each shot 7-of-11 from the floor and they combined to go 11-of-12 from the free-throw line. UT Lady Vols Basketball late rally falls short at Alabama Crimson TideUT Athletics Department
The loss ended Tennessee’s (16-12, 7-8 SEC) 42-game winning streak against Alabama (15-13, 4-11) and marked the Lady Vols’ first-ever loss in Tuscaloosa. UT’s last loss to Alabama entering Thursday was on March 3rd, 1984. Graves finished with 15 points and eight rebounds. Mercedes Russell recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
