The Nashville Symphony Orchestra and Chorus holds first Concert in the newly dedicated George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall

 

Austin Peay State UniversityThe Clarksville Community Concert AssociationClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Community Concert Association as part of their Community Concert Series in partnership with Austin Peay State University brought the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and Nashville Symphony Chorus to Clarksville to play the first concert in the soon to be re-dedicated concert Hall.

After the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and Chorus opened with George Mabry’s newest composition “If Music Be the Food of Love,” a small ceremony was held to rededicate the Austin Peay State University Music/Mass communication building concert hall in honor of Dr. George Mabry and his wife Sharon Mabry. The Mabry’s have been members of the faculty at university since the 1970s and have made their mark on both the university and the community.

Clarksville Community Concert Association to open 2012-13 season with Virtuoso pianist Gloria Chien September 21st

 

Clarksville, TNThe Clarksville Community Concert AssociationThe Clarksville Community Concert Association will kick off its 2012-13 season at 7:30pm on September 21st with a performance by piano virtuoso Gloria Chien.

Richard Dyer of the Boston Glove praised Chien for “a wondrously rich palette of colors, which she mixes everything with dashing bravado and with an uncanny precision of calibration.”

The ensemble performance features the combined members of the Skaggs and White families in a down-home, Bluegrass-inspired seasonal celebration that is a musical tour de force.

Music Icon Ricky Skaggs Named Entertainer of the Year and Musician of the Year the 17th Annual ICM Faith, Family & Country Awards

 

ICM Faith Family & Country Awards ShowNashville, TN – Music icon Ricky Skaggs was named Entertainer of the Year and Musician of the Year at tonight’s 17th Annual ICM Faith, Family & Country Awards Show.

Held at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center, the star-studded evening included a memorable performance of “Somebody’s Prayin'” that featured Skaggs, John Elliot and six members of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.  The track is from Ricky’s July-issue CD, “Country Hits Bluegrass Style”.  The show was co-hosted by GAC-TV’s Storme Warren and Inside Edition’s Megan Alexander. «Read the rest of this article»

Sharon Mabry records new CD with Nashville Symphony Orchestra

Sharon Mabry

Sharon Mabry, mezzo-soprano and professor of music at Austin Peay State University, is a featured soloist on a new CD. The CD was published by Naxos, one of the leading classical music labels, and is distributed internationally.

Titled “Lincoln Portraits,” this CD—Mabry’s eighth thus far—has been issued by the Nashville Symphony Orchestra in celebration of the 200th birthday of Abraham Lincoln.

The CD includes orchestral works by Charles Ives, Ernst Bacon, Elliot Gould, George McKay, Vincent Persichetti, Paul Turok and Roy Harris. Mabry is the soloist for the Roy Harris “Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight,” with the subtitle “A Canticle of Lamentation.” «Read the rest of this article»
