APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – As a freshman last season, Chris Horton made a splash for the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team as a big-time shot blocker and solid rebounder, but still a work in progress as a scorer.

But the 2012-13 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year has stepped up his game as a sophomore showing he can be a force on both ends of the court.

APSU’s Chris Horton named OVC Freshman of the Year joins Travis Betran on OVC All-Newcomer team

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – Chris Horton, who became the first conference player to block 100 or more shots since 1996-97, has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year.

In addition, Horton and Govs’ leading scorer Travis Betran were been named to the OVC All-Newcomer team. The OVC post-season basketball honors were announced Tuesday by the league office after a vote of league coaches and sports information directors.

Tatiana Ariza set to make Women’s World Cup appearance with Columbian National Team, Tuesday

 

APSU Sports: Women’s Soccer

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – For the first time in school history, Austin Peay State University women’s soccer program will be represented in FIFA’s Women’s World Cup with upcoming sophomore Tatiana Ariza playing for the Colombian national team, beginning with a Tuesday match against Sweden.

Although the appearance is new to this Colombian team, Ariza is one of several players that participated in the U-20 Women’s World Cup, last summer, also in Germany. Ariza also was a key player in the U-17 team’s run in 2008.

Harris earns first-team All-OVC golf for third straight

 

APSU Women’s Golf

Austin Peay State University GovernorsDickson, TN – Senior Austin Peay State University golfer Chelsea Harris has selected first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference for a third straight year.

Her selection was announced Thursday night at the annual banquet following first-round OVC tournament play, for a second straight year being played at GreyStone Golf Club.

Murray State’s Delaney Howson has been named the 2010-11 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year for women’s golf. That award, along with the All-OVC and All-Newcomer squads, were announced Thursday. The OVC Player and Coach of the Year awards will be announced Saturday afternoon following the final-round play at the championship.

Tatiana Ariza named OVC Freshman of the Year, three Lady Govs earn postseason honors

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Tatiana Ariza was named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year to highlight Austin Peay State University’s women soccer team’s postseason awards. Tatiana also was joined by her sister freshman Natalia Ariza as first-team All-OVC selections, while fellow freshman midfielder Joceline Quiceno was a second-team All-OVC pick. All three were named to the league’s All-Newcomer team.

Tatiana ArizaHeading into the 2010 season, head coach Kelley Guth knew that her program’s success hinged on a number of freshmen being able to contribute immediately. Expectations were exceeded with three Lady Govs freshmen earning postseason recognition, the most in program history.

As the first Lady Govs player ever to earn OVC Freshman of the Year honors, Tatiana Ariza parlayed her international soccer experience perfectly into a record-setting freshman campaign. She scored the game-winner in her first collegiate game against Western Illinois and her next three goals also would come in clutch situations. With the OVC Tournament remaining, Tatiana leads the Lady Govs with nine goals, while also posting four assists. «Read the rest of this article»
