Nashville Sounds pitcher David Carpenter named to All-PCL Team
Carpenter, 34, is 2-0 with a 1.77 ERA (7 ER/35.2 IP) in 36 games. Carpenter leads all of Triple-A Baseball with 20 saves and has converted all but one opportunity. The West Virginia native has a 1.12 WHIP, 40 strikeouts and has limited Pacific Coast League hitters to a .220 batting average.

The Sounds jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to some savvy base running by Jorge Mateo. The speedster led off with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball and to third on a fly ball to center field. In a game that was delayed by rain for over 2.5 hours, both teams combined for only eight hits, but it was the Baby Cakes who improved to 2-1 with the one-run win. The game started in Nashville’s favor as the Sounds scored in the top of the first inning. Jorge Mateo started the game by coaxing a walk off Sandy Alcantara. Every member of the starting lineup had at least one hit for Nashville. Dustin Fowler went 3-for-5 to lead six different Sounds players with a multi-hit game. The four-hour, 14-minute marathon came to an end when the Storm Chasers put together a rally after both teams were held off the scoreboard since the sixth inning. With Nashville’s Patrick Schuster on the mound, Cam Gallagher singled to right-center to start it.
