APSU BaseballFort Lauderdale, FL – Austin Peay State University men’s golf came out firing in the opening round of the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate, and maintained that fiery pace in the second round to sit in second after 36 holes at Fort Lauderdale Country Club’s North Course.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Baseball, Men’s Golf Teams open seasons with a flourish

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball and men’s golf teams opened their respective spring schedules this past weekend with impressive starts, as Governors athletics continue to shine during the 2017-18 school year.

Both teams couldn’t have asked for much more to kick-off their seasons, with baseball going 3-0, with two wins versus South Dakota State and a victory versus Big-10 Conference member Illinois, while men’s golf went right down to the wire in finishing second out of 16 teams at the Invitational at Savannah Harbor – won and hosted by William & Mary.

APSU Men's GolfSavannah, GA – Another strong round bumped a young Austin Peay State University men’s golf team into second on the final day of the Invitational at Savannah Harbor, hosted by William & Mary.

Austin Peay’s three-round 857 (286-286-285) was its best during the tenure of head coach Robbie Wilson, making the Govs the lone team in the tournament to post a score under-par in all three rounds.

APSU Men's GolfSavannah, GA – Austin Peay State University men’s golf got the spring session off to a rollicking start, firing matching 286s to sit in third at the Invitational at Savannah Harbor, hosted by William & Mary.

With a four-under par 572 through two rounds, the Govs are one of three teams to shoot under par on the first day of competition.

Former Austin Peay golf coach Kirk Kayden, along with current Govs coach Robbie Wilson, were in Chandler, AZ, this past weekend, watching a trio of former Govs attempt to earn their playing cards in the Web.com Tour Qualifying Tournament.

Kayden, now the Mercer men’s golf coach, couldn’t help but gush about watching the three former Govs: “It was so much fun watching these guys getting a chance to realize their dreams. It was a pretty special thing, a once-in-a-lifetime deal…Three of your former players are playing in Web.com final. That just doesn’t happen. I had to make it work; I had to be there.”

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – With professional golf tours across the globe slowly winding toward their respective conclusions as winter approaches, it’s time once more to check in on Austin Peay State University men’s golf alumni as they pursue their professional ambitions.

One Gov whose career certainly moved forward in 2017 was Grant Leaver. The 2016 APSU Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee blew through the SwingThought Tour this season, winning the points race (24,481), leading the national series in winnings ($31,170) and winning “The 44”, SwingThought’s sponsorship element for the Web.com Tour’s qualifying school.

APSU’s Eric Hedberg earns prestigious Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honor

APSU Men's GolfNorman, OK – Austin Peay State University men’s golfer Erik Hedberg was named a Division I Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar for the 2016-17 season.

Hedberg was one of 260 Division I men’s golfers to earn this distinction; a record 434 earned All-America Scholar honors across all levels (Division I, II, III and NAIA).

APSU Men's GolfMuscle Shoals, AL – Austin Peay State University men’s golf dropped a few strokes but remain in prime position for a top-five finish at the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Golf Championships at the Fighting Joe at the Shoals.

Through two rounds, the Governors sit in sixth (289-299-588), eight shots behind UT Martin.
